Amphipod Hydration RunLite Trail

There are 3 basic keys to becoming a better athlete: proper nutrition, appropriate shoes, and constant motivation.  Keeping your mind and body healthy will allow you to train more consistently and effectively, which makes you better.  These weekly reviews aim to educate readers on product available to fullfil their key requirements.

 Amphipod Hydration RunLite Trail Runner

It's summer time and SURPRISE: it's hot outside.  I often preach the importance of hydration and this week will break down one of the popular hydration belts offered by Amphipod.  This company makes a variety of pack & go systems for athletics and their hydration systems are among the best bottle-based belts available.

Two or four bottles (10.5 oz or 8 oz) can be attached around the waist flanking the small zipper pack.  The pack is useful for carrying gels, a cell phone, band-aids, mP3 player, MACE, keys, etc.  Trail running will often surprise you with the urgent need for some kind of support - it's like camping without stopping - and you will appreciate having the secure pack to carry your essentials.

The hydration bottles attach via clips.  To retrieve the bottle you grab it between the hand and thumb, squeeze the sides and pull.  Replacing the bottle you just snap it back into it's receiver.  I prefer this method over the elastic pockets of other belts because if you're tired or seaty it can be hard to get the envelope straight to stick your bottle back in.  The clip system from Amphipod ensures one-handed use under almost all conditions, making it a little more convenient.

Another feature is that the clips can be inverted so the bottle sits upright, or sideways.  Depending on your running gait this little modification can reduce the sloshing of the liquid and thereby reduce the bouncing of the bottles.  Net effect - more control over your own comfort.

Lastly, Amphipod offers an incredible array of modular belt accessories.  You can basically set up your belt to carry as much or as little stuff as you desire, with everything placed exactly where you want it, and even add extra reflective patches.  If you buy an Amphipod belt it's worth your time to check our their catalogue and get a feel for all the options available - it's impressive.

Start drinking early and drink often, it will allow you to train harder.
